Kadima hosted its Annual Education Conference at the MSU Management Education Center in Troy, Mich. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015. The focus of the conference was DUAL DIAGNOSIS – High Functioning Autism and Mental Illness: The Transition from Childhood to Adulthood.

The guest speaker was Fred Volkmar, MD an Irving B. Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics and Psychology at the Yale University Child Study Center, School of Medicine. His presentation focused on issues of dual diagnosis in high functioning adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorder (also commonly referred to as Asperger’s Syndrome).

The objectives of the event were to provide understanding about the nature and extent of changes in autism outcomes over time; information about co-occurring conditions in individuals who have autism, especially co-occurring with anxiety and mood disorders; and approaches to treatment.

The conference offered continuing education credits to social workers and educators, as well as school counselors, administrators and Psychologists.
